Each year The Backyard hosts the 11th annual "Backstage at The Geffen" gala dinner.
POOLSIDE PERFECTION: The Backyard, Wet pool deck, and the W's luxury cabanas provided a picture perfect setting for the 11th Annual "Backstage at the Geffen" gala dinner and benefit performance on Monday, May 13, honoring Billy Crystal and Bruce Ramer. The Backyard and the W Los Angeles - Westwood were presenting sponsors of the exclusive star-studded event that raised more than $1.2 million for the Geffen Playhouse's artistic initiatives and educational and outreach programs.
COLORS OF SPRING: A beautiful Shaved Spring Vegetable salad featuring nantes carrot, chioggia beets, fennel, oro blanco, and fresh mint was created as the delicious first course for guests by Executive Chef Dakota Weiss.
YOU LOOK MAHVELOUS!: Honoree Billy Crystal, who received the Geffen's 2013 Distinction in Theater Award, and Geffen Board member Gil Cates, Jr. at the exclusive pre-show cocktail reception in The Backyard. Guests enjoyed savory tray-passed hors d'oeuvres that included deviled quail eggs with caviar and chives, coconut-lobster bisque shots, and burrata-tomato gelee-basil parfaits created by Executive Chef Dakota Weiss.
DINING WITH THE STARS: Among the 300 guests who dined on grilled and lightly mesquite-smoked petit filet of beef with a citrus-scented red wine reduction, baby spring potato cake, delta asparagus, or Meyer lemon ricotta ravioli with oven-dried heirloom tomatoes and sweet pea shoots, all created by Executive Chef Dakota Weiss, were honorees Billy Crystal and Bruce Ramer, Morgan Freeman, Josh Gad (of The Book of Mormon fame), and scores of other Hollywood luminaries and industry executives.
